Cape Town - The Western Cape High Court ruled on Thursday that SABC chief operating officer Hlaudi Motsoeneng must be suspended with immediate effect, pending a disciplinary hearing.

Motsoeneng would be suspended for 60 days.

The Democratic Allliance (DA) welcomed the ruling in their favour, in the party's ongoing court battle to force the public broadcaster to implement the findings of the Public Protector against Motsoeneng.

However, legal counsel for Motsoeneng, Zola Majavu, said they would immediately lodge an appeal with the Supreme Court of Appeal, which would allow Motsoeneng to return to work pending its outcome.
