Johannesburg - The murder accused girlfriend of the Hip Hop artist Nkululeko ‘Flabba’ Habedi recalled the hours before the murder, in the High Court sitting in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.

Sindisiwe Manqele recalled what she and Habedi had to drink when they went out with friends and said they all had tequila shots.

Manqele went on to tell the court that she only smoked dagga privately and not in public.

“Only the deceased and the guy who brought the joint smoked,” Manqele said.

She said one of Habedi’s friends bought a bottle of vodka and they all drank from it.

Manqele said she and Nkululeko Chauke were buying drinks and didn’t recall Habedi buying the group any drinks.

Manqele’s lawyer Norman Makhubela asked if she was aware of the financial dry patch Habedi was experiencing at the time.

“Yes I was,” Manqele said.

Manqele stated that she had loaned an amount of R200 to Habedi for petrol, and she bought anything else they needed and she didn’t mind doing this.

Later, Manqele told the court that two men had approached herself and a friend while they were at The Sands waiting for Habedi and Chauke to return from the bathroom.

“The deceased and Chauke came and the deceased asked the guys what they wanted with us,” Manqele said.

Manqele said Habedi said they should leave.

“The two guys told the deceased and Chauke to chill, “ Manqele said.

Manqele said she didn’t comply with Habedi’s request in asking her to leave with him. Makhubela asked whether Habedi had asked her to leave in an aggressive, assertive or friendly manner.

“It wasn’t in a friendly manner, I wasn’t expecting it but I wasn’t surprised by it,” Manqele said.

Manqele stated that Habedi grabbed her wrist and demanded that they leave before she made him crazy.

“I said to him who the f**k do you think you are, grabbing me around,” Manqele said.

Manqele stated that Habedi said she was being disrespectful speaking to him like that in front of his friends and colleagues.

“He said I was being disrespectful because of his financial situation,” Manqele said.

The court adjourned for lunch and the case is expected to continue on Tuesday afternoon.

Manqele has pleaded not guilty and instead claimed she was defending herself from her violent lover when she stabbed him at his home on March 9. Habedi, a member of hip-hop group Skwatta Kamp, was stabbed to death at his home in Alexandra in March. The popular musician was stabbed in the chest.
