Bredasdorp - The rape and murder trial of Johannes Kana has been adjourned by the Swellendam Circuit Court, SABC news reported on Thursday.
The adjournment was for the defence and State to prepare for a trial-within-a-trial on Friday.
The broadcaster reported that defence lawyer Pieter du Toit contended that Kana's constitutional rights were infringed by the police after his arrest in February.
Judge Patricia Goliath would reportedly decide on Friday if the evidence collected by police at the time could be used in the trial.
Fifteen witnesses had taken the stand so far and the trial was expected to conclude at the end of the month.
Kana has admitted leaving a Bredasdorp pub with 17-year-old Anene Booysen, hitting and raping her, but has denied killing her.
Booyen was raped and disembowelled and died in the Tygerberg Hospital on the afternoon of Saturday, February 2.
