Pretoria - The unabated killing of rhinos has touched the hearts of young South Africans, with more and more primary schoolchildren joining the fight to save the animals from extinction.
On Sunday afternoon, Rhino SA Champions took to the stage to support rhino conservation through music, dance, poetry and speeches.
The Rhino Music Concert was arranged by an 11-year-old Grade 6 pupil and accomplished pianist Tyrone Aaron, who said he was inspired by the book The Last Rhino by the late Lawrence Anthony.
Tyrone composed a song entitled Our Beautiful Rhino, which was released at the concert. The young pianist gave a scintillating performance with a live band of popular songs such as Toto’s Africa, Earth, Wind and Fire’s September, and Shakatak’s Night Birds.
Other Rhino SA Champions aged between 5 and 12 and who supported Tyrone in his cause were Ethan Nicholson, 8, and Bryan Daniels-Fok, 5, who have raised close to R12 000 and R9 000 respectively in support of the rhino.
Aaminah Patel, 11, recited a poem for the rhino, Unite Children of the World, a Rhino’s Plea, and Dance to be Wild dancers’ Mosala Makhetha, 11, and Nobuhle Danisa, 10, also gave a good account of themselves.
Agang political party leader Mamphele Ramphele, who attended the concert, said she was “very impressed” by the performances. - Pretoria News
