Durban - The case against three men arrested in a raid on the biggest drug laboratory ever uncovered in South Africa was postponed on Thursday, KwaZulu-Natal police said.

“The three suspects, aged 24, 58 and 57, appeared in the Pinetown Magistrate's Court today,” said Captain Thulani Zwane.

The case was postponed to Tuesday July 8 for further investigation.

“The magistrate ordered the suspects may not be identified in any manner until the next court appearance due to on-going investigations.”

On Tuesday night, heroin with an estimated street value of R3

billion was recovered during a raid in the elite suburb of Kloof, near Durban.

On Wednesday, national police commissioner Riah Phiyega said it was the biggest drug laboratory ever found in the country.

“We are still counting these 50kg bags (of heroin) but at the last count, we had counted more than 200 bags,” she said in a statement.

Industrial manufacturing machines, scales, and containers were confiscated in the raid.
