Cape Town - "Jy het mos my suster vrek gemaak, jy!” ('You killed my sister!')

These were the words shouted at Cameron Wilson in the Western Cape High Court on Monday when murdered Lekita Moore’s sister took the stand.

The 20-year-old is being tried on 15 charges including six murders, attempted murder, rape and assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm.

Lekita’s mutilated body was found on an open field in Tuna Road, near the 8ste Laan informal settlement in Valhalla Park in September 2016.

She had been stabbed 99 times, and her face, vagina and breasts was slashed.

Contrary to Wilson’s claims, Mercia Moore, 20, said he and Lekita were more than just friends.

“We knew Cameron because he is my boyfriend’s cousin,” she testified.

“He and Lekita were together a lot. He even came looking for her at our house a few times."

“Lekita and Cameron were not just friends, they kissed, too.”

The afternoon before she was killed, Wilson allegedly came to Lekita’s house drunk.

“She told me he wanted to hit her with a sjambok he had had with him. Hy was kaalborste en hy was dronk (He was barechest and drunk),” Mercia said.

Later that night, he allegedly came to fetch Lekita at a karaoke which was being held at the local civic centre.

“He had on a black melton jacket with a hoody, black Nike tracksuit pants and black and white Chuck Taylor takkies,” she testified.

“He came to fetch Lekita at the karaoke, he grabbed her around her neck and went out en ek was toe agterna (I followed them)."

“Cameron said they were going to by a box (wine) by 8ste Laan and I must come with."

“Lekita still told me: ‘Kom saam, my suster’ and Cameron also said I must go with, but ek het geweier." ("Lekita still told me: ‘Come with, my sister’ and Cameron also said I must go with, but I refused.")

“That was the last time I saw Lekita, when she left with Cameron and his friends,” Mercia said sadly.

The next morning, Lekita’s body was found lying on the field.

“I didn’t want to go look, but I went. I saw my sister’s shoes,” Mercia said before breaking down.

At this, Wilson sat in the dock, smirking.

During cross-examination, his lawyer Mohamed Sibda said Wilson denied being romantically involved with Lekita.

He admitted being at the karaoke, but claims he never spoke to Lekita and left on his own.

An angry Mercia then lashed out at Wilson: “Hoekom lieg jy so? Hoekom moet hy so lieg, jy het mos my suster vrek gemaak. Ons was oor jou, my suster was mal oor jou!” (“Why are you lying? Why must you lie like that, you killed my sister. We cared about you, my sister was crazy about you!”

Wilson’s grandmother, Mary Wilson, also took the stand and said Wilson had a braai at home which ended at 11pm.

He left, wearing her black hooded jacket, and only returned late the next morning.
