Johannesburg - Limpopo police have launched a manhunt for four men following an alleged farm attack on a doctor and his wife.

The incident took place in Lephalale at around 8pm on Wednesday, September 20.

According to police spokesperson Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe, the armed suspects managed to gain access to Dr Werner Emslie's property where they attacked him and his wife.

"It is alleged that Emslie, 55, was sitting outside his house on his farm at Afguns when four unknown men, two armed with pistols attacked and shot him to death and further shot his 55-year-old wife, Dr Maritte Emslie."

"She survived the attack with serious injuries and was immediately taken to the hospital for medical treatment."

Paramedics confirmed that aeromedical staff were called in to assist in transporting a critical Maritte from Limpopo to Gauteng.

Netcare spokesperson Nick Dollman explained that Maritte was attended to by Advanced Life Support Paramedics before being placed on a ventilator.

"Once stabilised, she was airlifted to an Emergency Unit in Gauteng for the urgent medical care that she required," he said.

Ngoepe, meanwhile, confirmed that the suspects had taken The Emslie's new Toyota double cab bakkie but that the vehicle was later found abandoned 2km away from this house.

He urged anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects to contact the crime stop number or report it to their nearest police station.
