Cape Town - Transport Month kicked off in Cape Town with the longest Open Streets Day on Sunday.

A 5km stretch of Main Road between Observatory and the Cape Town CBD was truck, bus and taxi free, creating a space for people to walk, cycle or skate.

“Open Streets was fantastic, the atmosphere was good and buzzing. There were families there, it was absolutely fun and kids were taking selfies with the Panda,” said the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) events officer, Fiona Kinsey.

One of the highlights was the WWF nature walk, which promoted and encouraged all to live in harmony with nature, for the benefit of the country and the well-being of all the people through the #WalkTheTalk with Chi Chi the panda.

“The environmental impact of carbon-emitting road travel means we need to rethink how we get around,” Media manager of WWF SA Andrea Weiss said.
