Johannesburg - Has anybody lost a light-blue, hard-shelled bag at OR Tambo International Airport? Oh, and about R8 million worth of crystal meth?

Well, if so, the South African Revenue Service and the SA Police Service are looking for you.

On Tuesday, Sars revealed that it had found the unaccompanied bag at the airport on Friday, seemingly having travelled all the way from India, via Dubai.

Sars spokesman Sandile Memela said the unaccompanied bag was scanned as it arrived in the country, revealing a “suspicious, sugar-like substance” that was later confirmed to be about five plastic bags of the drug crystal meth.

But no one has come forward to claim the bag. Memela said the drugs were handed to the SAPS for further investigation.

So if you do happen to be missing your recreational drugs and bag, please contact your local police station or Sars to claim them - and a matching pair of handcuffs.

On Thursday last week, a passenger travelling in from Sao Paulo en route to Mozambique was intercepted at the airport with about 8.5kg of cocaine - estimated to be worth about R2.3m.

Earlier this year, Sars provided The Star with statistics that showed the consignments of drugs making their way in and out of South Africa were on the rise, though it also appears the revenue service is intercepting a large amount of the substances before distribution.

In January, Sars bust 76 shipments entering through border posts, mailing centres and airports countrywide. Fifty-eight of these were at OR Tambo International Airport.
