Limpopo - Expelled ANC Youth League president Julius Malema has handed himself over to the Polokwane police, SABC reported on Wednesday.
Hundreds of supporters rushed to Malema's vehicle when he arrived at the police station.
Malema is expected to appear in the Polokwane Regional Court later on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, reporters took their places in the courtroom, where only one bench had been set aside for journalists.
The court has yet to decide on an application for television cameras and photographers to be allowed in the court.
Another bench in the public gallery was reserved for the family of Malema, who was scheduled to appear at 8.30am on a charge of money-laundering, involving R4 million.
Roads leading to the court were closed on Wednesday and police monitored the situation ahead of former youth leader's appearance.
There was barbed wire outside the court and police Nyalas were positioned in various places surrounding the court. Police patrolled the road.
Scores of Malema supporters sang and danced outside the courthouse. The crowd was expected to swell as the day progressed.
Four other people, including Malema's business associate Lesiba Gwangwa, appeared in court on Tuesday on charges including fraud and corruption.
It is alleged that the four misrepresented themselves to the Limpopo department of roads and transport in respect of a R52
million tender, which was awarded to On-Point Engineers. The fraud charges also relate to designs owned by the department. - Sapa
