Another Cape Town businessman has been abducted.
This time brazen kidnappers abducted a shop owner’s son in Elsies River at the weekend.
According to witnesses, the Chinese businessman was snatched in broad daylight while he was at his store, Family Supermarket, in Halt Road.
One witness says four suspects entered the shop on Saturday morning and confronted the Chinese people who work there.
“The victim was behind the counter when he was dragged by the suspects,” explains the witness.
“They had guns but his father tried to fight with one of the suspects whose gun fell to the ground.”
The man says it was only after the incident that they realised that the kidnappers were not armed, when they inspected the gun that fell out of one of their hands.
“The kidnapper didn’t go back to get it and later it was found out that the gun was a toy,” said the witness.
The person, who spoke anonymously to the Daily Voice, said the 28-year-old kidnap victim was still missing Sunday afternoon.
When the Daily Voice visited the shop, it was closed.
SAPS’ Joseph Swartbooi confirms cops are investigating a case in which a 28-year-old foreign national was kidnapped while no arrests have been made yet.
This incident comes two weeks after a Somali shop owner was abducted by three gunmen in Parkwood and held for ransom.
The kidnappers were in a Toyota Quantum van when they snatched Abdie Majiet, 35, from his winkel during a delivery on 2 October.
