Queenstown - A man has been hacked to death, allegedly by a group of five men in Illinge, Queenstown, police said on Monday.

Lieutenant Pumzile Makaula said the 26-year-old man was part of a group that fought another group on Saturday.

“The victim belonged to the group that lost the fight. It is also alleged that the victim has two cases of murder and a case of rape pending against him,” she said.

The other men were arrested and were expected to appear in court soon.

In a separate incident, a man was arrested for allegedly beating his girlfriend to death on Saturday.

Makaula said the 55-year-old man was living with the 54-year-old woman in Sterkstroom, Queenstown.

The couple apparently had domestic problems.
