Cape Town - Convicted killer Thandi Maqubela will be sentenced in the Western Cape High Court on Tuesday, the SABC reported.

During closing arguments in sentencing proceedings on Thursday, the State asked the court to hand down a long sentence, the national broadcaster reported.

Maqubela's husband, acting judge Patrick Maqubela, who worked in the Western Cape High Court, was murdered in his Sea Point, Cape Town, flat in 2009.

She was also found guilty of forging his will and committing fraud by causing potential prejudice in his estate.

Prosecutor Bonnie Currie-Gamwo reportedly said that by accelerating the decomposition of the corpse and staying with her husband’s body for hours, Maqubela showed a callous lack of empathy. She said the widow had shown no remorse for her actions.

Currie-Gamwo said Patrick Maqubela's intention to divorce his wife propelled her to murder him, and not his infidelity.

She reportedly submitted that Maqubela had her own money, but committed fraud out of greed.

According to the SABC, the defence asked that Judge John Murphy show mercy when he handed down sentence.
