Durban – Three men, including a metro police officer, have been arrested in connection with the murder this week of a Durban businessman, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Saturday.

Members of the police national intervention unit, together with a private security company, had worked tirelessly in Umlazi on Friday following leads regarding the suspects wanted for the murder of Hoosen Dodha, Captain Nqobile Gwala said. Their hard work paid off with the arrest of three men, including a metro police officer.

The Berea SA Police Service received a report of a murder at about 8am on Monday and proceeded to the scene, he said. Dodha’s body was found at a business premises in Cowey Road, Berea. He had been shot several times. The business premises had been ransacked but it was still unclear what was stolen during the incident.

Seven spent 9mm cartridges were recovered from the scene. The arrested suspects, aged between 21 and 32, would be charged with murder and robbery. They were expected to appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Monday, Gwala said.

KwaZulu-Natal acting police commissioner Maj-Gen Bhekinkosi Langa commended the partnership between police and the security company which led to the arrest of the suspects. “These criminals will be subjected to prosecution and we will ensure together with the NPA [National Prosecuting Authority] that a well prepared docket is presented at court,” he said.
