Napoleon Webster to appear in court over murder charges

Rustenburg - Newly appointed Forum 4 Service Delivery (F4SD) councillor Napoleon Webster is expected to appear in the Rustenburg Magistrate's Court on Tuesday, facing a charge of murder.

Webster and 13 other men are accused of the murder of Sabata Petros Chale in Marikana last year.

The State alleges that Aubrey Seitsang, Sibonile Sobopha, Mdlondozi Fundiwo, Herbert Baqhesi, Napoleon Webster, William Nyanyane, Aphindile Pungone, Samson Gqwetani, Gift Luveli, Nkululeko Msithwa, Nkosindiphile Nziyose, Luvo Soyizwaphi, Sivuyile Qasha and Mzolisi Mbulana hacked Chale to death in Marikana West on December 8, 2016. 

They allegedly drank his blood after hacking him.

Seitsang, Sobopha, Fundiwo, Baqhesi and Nyanyane are in custody while the others are out on a bail.

Webster was released on R3 000 bail and Aphindile Pungone was granted R2 000 bail, while the other seven were released on bail of R5 000.

F4SD unveiled activist Webster as its proportional representative (PR) councillor in the Rustenburg local municipality.

According to a notice in the Government Gazzette, Webster was registered as a replacement for the late Rocky Malebana-Metsing on January 17.

Struggle stalwart Malebana-Metsing died on 23 November 2016.
