An elderly woman has been left shocked and shaken after her dog was mauled by two pit bulls.
Lucy Linko, 62, says her neighbours’ pit bulls came into the yard of her Tambo Village home and attacked her dog, Mafikizolo.
She said she watched as the pitties broke her pet’s legs with their powerful jaws.
“I usually lock the gate, the dogs must have found a gap and came inside my yard,” she says.
“It was in the early hours of Sunday around 1am, I heard Mafikizolo howling.
“I looked out of the window and he was being attacked by my neighbours’ dogs.
“I didn’t know what to do because I was scared of being bitten.”
Lucy says the only thing she could think of was to throw water at the animals.
“The pit bulls had locked their jaws, they were on top of Mafikizolo and his legs have been broken and my dog tried to walk but can’t.”
When the Daily Voice visited the house yesterday, the brakkie was lying on his side, and yelped when Lucy touched him.
“He is still traumatised from the incident. This was not the first time that the dogs came into my yard.
“I fear that it will one day bite one of my children.
“Every time an incident like this happens, my neighbours apologise but that is not enough.
“It is their responsibility to make sure that their dogs don’t leave their yards,” she says.
Lucy says she called the police but was referred to the SPCA.
SPCA spokesperson Belinda Abrahams was not aware of the incident until the Daily Voice informed her about it and immediately took action.
“An SPCA vehicle has been dispatched to assist the injured animal,” she says.
“Matters such as these must be reported to Law Enforcement on 021 596 1999 as City Bylaws which are the mandate of Law Enforcement require pet owners to be in control of their animals at all times.”
The owners of the pit bulls were not at home yesterday.
