Malamulele - Sixty-five people appeared in the Malamulele Magistrate's Court on Thursday charged with public violence during a demarcation protest, Limpopo police said.

“They were refused bail and will be appearing again on October 24,” Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said.

The 65 were arrested during protests on Tuesday where residents went on the rampage after the demarcation board did not grant them a meeting to demand their own municipality. Residents burnt down a government building and shops.

On Wednesday, small groups of protesters blocked roads and burned tyres in the area.
