Barberton - The driver of the truck that collided with a coal train in Mpumalanga, killing 25 people, was denied bail on Tuesday.

George Mandlazi, 32, would be back in the Barberton Magistrate's Court on August 14, police spokesman Colonel Leonard Hlathi said.

The collision happened last Friday, at a level crossing on the N4 between Malelane and Hectorspruit.

The truck was carrying farm workers. A total of 25 people were killed in the accident and several others were injured.

The train dragged the truck for about 200 metres, leaving bodies with limbs missing scattered on the ground.

The coal train had been travelling from Witbank to Maputo. - Sapa
