Johannesburg - An accident in the north of Joburg left a woman dead and another person critically injured, paramedics said on Friday.
The crash, which involved a truck and car, happened on Thursday night in Cosmos City between Malibongwe and South Africa Drive.
ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring explained that paramedics arrived at the scene to find both the vehicles in the middle of the road.
"Upon closer inspection, paramedics discovered the lifeless body of a woman, believed to be in her 20s, lying trapped inside the light motor vehicle in the passenger seat.
"An older woman was also found lying in the driver’s seat of the vehicle."
Both patients were then assessed and the younger woman showed no signs of life, having sustained numerous injuries.
Meiring said nothing more could be done for her and she was declared dead at the scene.
"The older woman was assessed and found to have sustained numerous injuries and was in a critical condition. Paramedics carefully extricated the woman, treated her and provided her with advanced life support interventions.
"Once treated, the woman was transported to Helen Joseph Provincial Hospital for further treatment."
Meiring said the exact cause of the collision was not yet known and that local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
