Delegates at the ANC policy conference should focus on the political challenges identified in discussion papers, not leadership contests, the SACP and Cosatu said on Friday.

“Our revolution is at a cross-roads. Poverty, hunger and unemployment confront our people daily. The moment is for us to focus on addressing the key challenges facing our people,” the SA Communist Party and Congress of SA Trade Unions said in statement.

“It is vital that the leader of the alliance, the ANC, emerges from this year's two conferences stronger and more united, to lead society around a programme for economic and social transformation.”

The SACP and Cosatu stressed the importance of confronting unemployment, poverty, and inequality in a systematic way, and of adopting a coherent strategy to restructure the economy, expand manufacturing and create sustainable and decent jobs.
