Johannesburg - The funeral of the late ANC stalwart Reginald September was held at the Johannesburg Botanical Gardens on Saturday.

Directing the funeral was Gauteng Premier Nomvula Mokonyane.

President Jacob Zuma, Minister in the Presidency Trevor Manuel, and City Mayor Parks Tau were expected to address mourners.

Also at the service was former president Thabo Mbeki.

September, a trade unionist, died last Friday in Cape Town at the age of 90. He was one of the first non-African people to be elected onto the African National Congress executive and also served as a member of parliament.

He is survived by his wife, four children, and twelve grandchildren.

September’s coffin, which was placed at the front of the venue, was draped with a South African flag.

The police band played music between each tribute.
