The African National Congress (ANC) has become the first political party to make public all its ward candidates for the upcoming local government elections by posting names, photographs and geographic locations of the public representatives on its website.

“In line with its policy of transparency, which has seen candidates being subjected to public scrutiny through community participation in public meetings, the ANC believes that the publication of candidates on its website www.anc.org.za will now make it possible for its members, supporters and the South African society to know who will be representing the organisation at ward level,” the party said in a statement on Saturday.

The ANC election website went live at the weekend with additional features designed to help the public connect with their candidates and discuss topics around their local municipalities through a forum.

The party is also using social network Twitter to spread its election message. - Sapa
