Johannesburg - The ANC in Gauteng welcomed two new members from the DA into the ruling party on Thursday.

The Democratic Alliance's Tshwane ward 58 councillor Sam Moimane and City of Tshwane councillor Sello Maila were welcomed into the ANC by Gauteng secretary David Makhura at the provincial office in Johannesburg.

“Welcome to the home of those who want to transform South Africa,” he told the two councillors.

Moimane and Maila were each given a yellow African National Congress T-shirt and a copy of the party's election manifesto.

Moimane told reporters it was necessary for him to make the move from the DA to the ANC.

He said DA leader Helen Zille's announcement last week that Agang SA founder Mamphela Ramphele would be the presidential candidate was “offending”.

He claimed Ramphele was introduced as the presidential candidate because she was black.
