Johannesburg - A festive mood has gripped Vilakazi Street in Orlando West as jovial ANC members and the party's top leadership gathered along the famous street for a mini-rally aimed at mobilising support for the party's 105th birthday bash on Sunday.

By midday restaurants in the area such as Sakhumzi and Vuyo's were packed while some streets were cordoned off. Young and old marshals, including grannies, were deployed to control the crowd.

ANC secretary-general Gwede Mantashe arrived a little after lunchtime and waved to members.

Before his arrival, Sports and Recreation Minister Fikile Mbalula brought along his bubbly character and interacted with the crowd, taking selfies with supporters. He was joined by ANC treasurer-general Zweli Mkhize. President Jacob Zuma is also expected to grace the rally.
