Durban - The Democratic Alliance on Sunday gave its support to Zulu king Goodwill Zwelithini’s call for an end to cultural events being used for political gain.
The DA in KwaZulu-Natal was fully behind Zwelithini “on his call for an end to cultural events being used for political campaigns by ANC politicians”, DA provincial leader Zwakele Mncwango said in a statement.
“On Thursday, at an event to commemorate king Shaka, king Zwelithini took a swipe at the banners showing the faces of politicians,” he said.
“We are aware of the coming elective conference of the ANC in the province and that some members are using every platform they get, using state resources, to push their own internal campaigns to win votes.”
The DA would keep on raising the issue of state resources being used to pursue political campaigns.
It was not the first time that state resources were used by some in the ANC.
“Cultural events belong to everyone and people must be able to enjoy these events without any political interference,” Mncwango said.
