The ANC Youth League (ANCYL) has, with its rhetoric, disqualified itself from helping the country through its economic crisis, the Christian Democratic Party (CDP) said on Friday.
“What we now need is reliable, responsible political leadership to steer the country through the crisis,” CDP leader Reverend Theunis Botha said in a statement.
“The ANC Youth League, with its rhetoric, has by definition disqualified itself from this fold.”
He said league president Julius Malema's call for nationalisation would add to South Africa's economic woes.
“(This) is not the time to add to South Africa's economic woes by drumming up support for nationalisation and other revolutionary objectives, as this can do immense harm to the economy.”
Malema has argued that nationalisation would unite South Africans.
Speaking at the University of Johannesburg on Thursday, Malema said: “Everyone has the right to benefit from wealth in South Africa. Since the debate on nationalisation, every rich family has spoken in defence of their property... all of them, they are in Stellenbosch, the Stellenbosch mafia.”
He said 10 percent of the South African population was white, yet controlled 90 percent of the wealth.
