Johannesburg - Social Development Minister Bathabile Dlamini has been elected ANC Women’s League president, replacing Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga.

The final results were announced after 4am on Saturday at the ANCWL’s elective conference being held at Irene.

More than 2 700 voting delegates started casting their votes on Friday afternoon.

Free State Social Development MEC Sisi Ntombela was elected deputy president, while Meokgo Matuba of the North West ANCWL was elected general secretary.

Eastern Cape Transport MEC Wesizwe Tikana was elected Matuba’s deputy.

The position of treasurer went to International Relations Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane.

The conference will elect 45 additional members to the national executive committee on Saturday.

The 12th conference, which was supposed to have been held in 2013 but was delayed, apparently due to infighting, ends on Saturday.
