Johannesburg - Winnie Madikizela-Mandela on Sunday arrived to loud cheers at Fly Emirates Park Stadium in Johannesburg to attend the African National Congress Siyanqoba rally ahead of the August 3 municipal elections.

The veteran politician arrived soon after ANC president Jacob Zuma and other top ANC officials, including deputy president Cyril Ramaphosa, national chairwoman Baleka Mbete, and Gauteng chairman Paul Mashatile.

Several Cabinet ministers were also among those present. Madikizela-Mandela was chauffeured in a golf cart and given a seat among the ANC top six next to Zuma.

Last week, Madikizela-Mandela endorsed the ANC and said the party would overcome all the problems it faced. She has not been participating in the election campaign owing to her poor health. She also underwent back surgery recently.

The ANC managed to fill the 62,500-seat stadium, with live live feeds being beamed to other stadiums around the country, in its final drive to garner support for Wednesday's elections.
