Cape Town - The first sitting of the next Parliament will take place on May 21 and see the National Assembly elect the new president of the country and the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the legislature, the Constitutional Court said on Friday.

The first sitting of the National Council of Provinces will take place the following day, and members will elect a new chair and deputy chair for the chamber.

The dates were decreed by Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng.

The presidential inauguration will take place at the Union Buildings on May 24.
