Johannesburg - SABC board deputy chairperson Febe Potgieter-Gqubule has resigned from the board to take up a position as ANC elections manager.  

The SABC board confirmed that it had recived her resignation letter on Thursday.  

Potgieter-Gqubule had said last year during interviews for SABC board appointments that she would resign from the board if she was appointed in any official capacity that would be in conflict with her duties at the public broadcaster. 

She was appointed last year following a grilling Parliamentary process that aimed to beef-up the SABC board following years of mismanagement.  

Potgieter-Gqubule's departure has left the board with three vacancies, following the sudden resignation of Rachel Kalidass last year.

The SABC said it would notify Parliament of the urgency to fill the vacant posts. 

The ANC has announced a series of appointments at its head office at Luthuli House with aim the of beefing up its preparations for the 2019 national elections. 

Fikile Mbalula was appointed as the party’s full-time head of elections following his removal as the minister of police. 

Other appointments at Luthuli House include Senzo Mchunu who will head-up organising and Zizi Kodwa who is appointed as the head of ANC presidency.
