Cape Town - Former African Union chair Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma will be sworn as a member of Parliament on Thursday.

The ANC parliamentary caucus confirmed this on Thursday morning and said the ceremony will be presided over  by deputy speaker of  the National Assembly Lechesa Tsenoli.

Another ANC member that will be sworn in on Thursday is former Rustenburg mayor Matthew Wolmarans.

Wolmarans was convicted for the murder of a Rustenburg local municipality councillor Mos Phakoe in 2009. But he has since being acquitted.

Dlamini Zuma's deployment to Parliament has been received with mixed views with many speculating that her move to Parliament paves the way for her to be appointed as a cabinet minister.

It was reported a few weeks ago that President Jacob Zuma was planning to reshuffle his cabinet and fire Higher Education Minister Blade Nzimande and replace him with Dlamini Zuma.

She along with Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa are seen as the front runners to replace Zuma in the lead up the ANC's elective conference in December.
