Nceba Faku has been re-elected chairman of the ANC's Nelson Mandela region in the Eastern Cape, according to a report on Saturday.

Faku was challenged by the city's mayor Zanoxolo Wayile, SABC radio reported.

He, however, left the conference before voting started and was subsequently disqualified.

Months of tension between Faku and Wayile and their followers had impacted negatively on the running of the municipality, the broadcaster reported.
