ANC national secretary Gwede Mantashe is expected to answer questions on a meeting with some of South Africa's major banks at Luthuli House when he takes the stand at the Zondo commission of inquiry onto state capture on Tuesday.
Earlier witnesses have testified that the purpose of the meeting, at which Matashe and Jesse Duarte were present, was to exert pressure on the banks to reconsider their decision to close personal and business accounts belonging to the Gupta family.
In September this year, the inquiry heard from officials at the banks that the risks associated with doing business with the family was one of the chief reasons for cutting ties with them.
Mantashe's testimony will follow that of former media boss Mzwanele Manyi, who gave evidence relating to his tenure as chief executive of the Government Communication and Information Systems (GCIS) between the 2011 and 2012. During the period, The New Age newspaper - then owned by the Gupta family - received around R8 million of the R194m GCIS media advertising budget.
