Durban - Idols SA judge Gareth Cliff’s future with the M-Net station will be reviewed, the company said on Wednesday.

M-Net CEO Yolisa Phahle said: “Gareth Cliff is not currently contracted to M-Net and we will be reviewing his future employment with the company.”

‘I’ve been an insensitive a**hole’

This comes after the controversial radio presenter, weighed in on an anti-black Facebook post by Penny Sparrow in which she labelled black beach-goers as “monkeys”.

Soon after the post went viral, Cliff commented saying “People just don’t understand free speech at all”.

Twitter users did not take his comment lightly and called on South Africans to boycott Idols SA as well as his online radio station, Cliff Central.

No excuse for racism Gareth

On Tuesday Cliff apologised saying: “With regard to free speech and hate speech, I need to continue me education”.

M-Net did not elaborate on what action would be taken.

Filming for the current season of Idols SA is already underway.
