JOHANNESBURG, August 17 (ANA) – Government needs to look at different ways of enhancing the quality of service delivery to benefit people, Mpumalanga Premier David Mabuza said on Wednesday, as he announced a cabinet reshuffle in the province.

“Indeed the local government elections have come and gone, but as the ruling party, we have heard what the people are saying. They still believe in us, and they do want us to continue running the government on their behalf. We are so grateful and humbled by this gesture,” Mabuza said in a statement.

“We commit ourselves to continue to be the servants of the people, and we will ensure that we accelerate the level of service delivery. At the municipal level, we have already deployed capable leaders who will ensure that the people are served.”

Mabuza announced that Vusumuzi Shongwe was appointed MEC for Agriculture, Rural Development, Land and Environmental Affairs; Speedy Mashilo was appointed MEC for Human Settlements; Sasekani Manzini was appointed MEC for Public Works Roads and Transport; Busi Shiba was appointed MEC for Social Development; and Petrus Ngomana was appointed MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison.

“As the Premier, I am constitutionally and personally responsible for all the departments. It is my prerogative to put members of the executive to run the departments on my behalf. Equally so, I also have a right to reorganise the executive council,” he said.

He said when deciding to rearrange the executive council, the strengths of the members should be assessed in order to place them where they would make a positive impact.

“We also take this opportunity to congratulate the new members who are joining us. You are coming on board at a difficult time in our lives, when people out there are expecting a lot from us. We are sure you have heard the people yourselves.”

Mabuza thanked the outgoing members for their contribution over the past two years and wished them well in their future endeavours.
