Rustenburg - Newly appointed North West social development MEC Ontlametse Mochwari has resigned due to a technicality in the Electoral Act, the ANC said on Wednesday.

“The Electoral Act stipulates that we can only change our list to the legislature after a year. Due to this, honourable Mochwari resigned,” said provincial spokesman Oupa Matla.

“We thank her for her loyalty to the party.”

Provincial legislature spokesman Mongezi Tsenca said speaker Suzan Rebecca Dantjie confirmed receipt of her resignation on Tuesday.

Mochwari, former mayor of Kagisano-Molopo local municipality, was sworn in as MEC on Tuesday.

Tsenca said Mochwari was also no longer a member of the provincial legislature.

North West premier Supra Mahumapelo announced the members of his executive committee on Tuesday.
