President Jacob Zuma has announced to the nation that Mogoeng Mogoeng has been appointed as the new chief justice of the country.

Zuma had earlier in the year said that Mogoeng had demonstrated his "expertise and keen interest" in the transformation of the judiciary and played a leading role in programmes designed to promote court efficiency and transformation.

The appointment comes after former chief justice Sandile Ngcobo did not renew his employment at the end of his term. - Eye Witness News
