Johannesburg - The National Assembly plenary will debate the use of the Waterkloof Air Force Base in Parliament on Wednesday.

The debate comes after Justice Minister Jeff Radebe's presentation on Sunday of a summary of the findings of a ministerial probe into the landing of a privately chartered plane by the Gupta family at the base on April 29.

Radebe said that President Jacob Zuma and his Cabinet had no involvement in the landing.

A plane chartered by the Gupta family, carrying 270 guests to a family wedding, landed at the base last month.

The report found that 194 government personnel and 88 government vehicles were deployed during the operation.

Radebe also said that Waterkloof Air Force Base was not a national key point, rather it was a strategic military base.

The Democratic Alliance has since slated the report as “a carefully crafted damage control exercise designed to protect... Zuma and members of his Cabinet from the political fallout”.

The party has called for an independent probe into the events. - Sapa
