Johannesburg - The National Union of Metalworkers of SA belongs to its members, the union's former leader said on Friday.

“You pay subscription fees every month, you choose who you want to lead you from the branch to national [levels],” Daniel Dube said at Numsa's special national congress in Boksburg, on the East Rand.

Dube was speaking on behalf of former office bearers.

“Do what you want [with the union] because it is yours,” he said to applause.

Numsa president Andrew Chirwa said former union leaders should be proud of the union.

“We are happy that you are proud to be associated with Numsa. I want to assure you we are continuing fighting for workers.”
