Johannesburg - South Africans have confidence in the ruling African National Congress, party treasurer general Zweli Mkhize said on Wednesday.

“There is a huge demand as we campaign, from people who want to identify with the ANC,” he told reporters while campaigning in Freedom Park, Soweto, for the upcoming general election.

“People trust the ANC and have confidence in it.”

Mkhize welcomed a former Democratic Alliance councillor who defected to the ANC. Solani Gudluza said he had been a DA member since 1999 and was tired of that party.

“I am a hard worker, but the DA persecutes you for that... you are never rewarded,” Gudluza told reporters.

Mkhize said the ANC campaigned and informed people about its own work.

“Unlike other parties, we don't talk about other political parties, we talk about the work of this administration. Other parties just attack the ANC.” - Sapa
