Johannesburg - New political party Republican Democrats has suspended two senior officials for allegedly misusing funds, its president said on Tuesday.

“The two patriots are suspended for contravening the provisions of the constitution of the RD, acts which include misuse of party funds, putting the party into disrepute, undermining activities of the party and making derogatory statements about other party members,” RD president Mosotho Motau said in a statement.

The two senior officials were suspended from the party for a period of six months.

“(They) will not be allowed to attend gatherings, events, meetings and campaigns of the RD, neither shall they be allowed to enter the premises of the organisation,” Motau said.

They would also not be allowed to make statements to the media unless permitted by the party.

“Any use of party material by any one of the two, or both patriots as a collective, will not be allowed and in the event that such happens criminal charges shall be laid against them,” he said.

The party is a libertarian socialist organisation and officially registered with the Independent Electoral Commission in November last year. - Sapa
