Johannesburg - The SABC could on Wednesday neither confirm nor deny rumours that its CEO Lulama Mokhobo had resigned.

“I am not aware of (her resignation) and I could not confirm it with anybody at the SABC,” spokesman Kaizer Kganyago said.

“I cannot say yes or no until I am officially told.”

Earlier, the City Press reported that the Broadcasting, Electronic Media and Allied Workers Union (Bemawu) sent out the following tweet on Tuesday: “Lulama Mokhobo, SABC CEO has resigned!”

When the paper contacted the union for comment, Bemawu reportedly said “members within the building” had told the union “there is a strong unconfirmed rumour she has resigned”.

The union reportedly said it had mistakenly believed that an announcement had already been made by the public broadcaster.
