Johannesburg - The South African Revenue Service (Sars) on Friday declined to elaborate on reports that a senior employee has applied for protection from the court to stop imminent disciplinary action directed him for what he said was his role in clearing former finance minister, Pravin Gordhan, of any wrong doing.
"Sars has noted media reports that Mr. Vlok Symington has approached the High Court in Pretoria for a declaratory order and an urgent interdict against a pending disciplinary action," said the terse statement from the revenue service.

"Various media have approached Sars to comment on the matter. Please take note that disciplinary procedures against employees are confidential and deemed an internal matter. Most importantly, Sars is not in a position to comment as the matter is before the courts."
On Thursday Symington, who was the subject of a hostage drama in October when he was held for refusing to hand over a document that indicated that Gordhan was unfairly targeted, filed two damning affidavits with the court.
