Pretoria - Scores of police officers were milling outside the High Court in Pretoria on Monday morning ahead of EFF leader Julius Malema’s tax case.
The court is set to hear arguments as to whether Malema’s provisional sequestration order should be lifted or whether it should be made final.
The provisional sequestration order against Malema regarding his outstanding tax bill was postponed in March.
In February last year, the court issued a provisional sequestration order against the EFF leader for a reported R16 million in tax debt.
On Monday a police Nyala pulling barbed wire was stationed next to the court entrance along Madiba Street before 7am.
The parking spaces adjacent to the court has been reserved for police vehicles.
Several Tshwane metro police officers were monitoring traffic along the street.
EFF secretary-general Goodrich Gardee and Tshwane chairman Benjamin Disoloane were at the court before 7am.
They wore T-shirt with the words: “If Sars is a political party, contest vote 2016?”
A few metres from the court, several other police officers were deployed to Church Square, which has the controversial giant Paul Kruger statue at its centre. The statue has been cordoned off with high perimeter security fence.
Police officers in the park were also demanding identity documents as people rushed to work on the chilly Monday morning.
