Universities across South Africa have been shut down all week as students protested for a 0% fee increase in 2016.

The protests culminated on Friday in a mass march to the Union Buildings in Pretoria, where President Jacob Zuma announced that fees would not increase in 2016.

The announcement followed a meeting between the president, varsity student representative councils, vice chancellors, representatives of national student organisations and members of university councils after a week of #FeesMustFall protests at campuses across South Africa.

The exam period has also been postponed to compensate for the time lost, he said.
