Parliament - Two special envoys will head for war-torn Palestine, President Jacob Zuma told MPs on Wednesday.

“I'm sending two special envoys to the Middle East. They are the former minister of social development and former high commissioner to the United Kingdom, Zola Skweyiya, and the former deputy minister of foreign affairs, Aziz Pahad,” he said.

Responding to debate on the presidency's budget vote, Zuma said he was pleased by the general agreement among parties that violence must end in the region, and that there could be no military solution to the conflict between Israel and Hamas.

“I think this powerful message, unanimous, coming from this Parliament, will go a long way,” he said.

Earlier this week, government announced it was sending one envoy, Pahad, to Palestine.
