Durban - Radical Economic Transformation (RET) Champion, a group of black business groups known for their backing of former president Jacob Zuma, says that Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan is a law unto himself and are calling for the African National Congress (ANC) to axe him as a cabinet minister.

Nkosentsha Shezi, of RET Champion, is accusing Gordhan of “unleashing venom” against black managers at state-owned enterprises and has also blamed the ANC for remaining silent.

On Monday, the group and its supporters is set to picket outside Luthuli House to pressure the ANC into firing Gordhan.

“If Gordhan is not stopped in his trail, the ANC may lose credibility in the face of both black business and the working class community. Pravin Gordhan has become a law unto himself.

“He founded an illegal and rogue unit at Sars and he has continued to employ his children, friends and associates in government entities at the expense of the people who voted the ANC to power,” says Shezi.

He says that Gordhan was directing Transnet board chairman Popo Molefe and his board to suspend Siyabonga Gama as CEO “despite impressive results and unproven allegations”.

"He (Gordhan) wants to replace him (Gama) with lackeys who will capture Transnet on his behalf,” says Shezi.
