Pretoria - Police Minister Fikile Mbalula has commended the SAPS for arresting a man who brazenly took to social media, showing off his rifle and bundles of cash.

The man, identified as Sammy Morake Morote, was arrested at his Atteridgeville home following a midnight operation by the police.

Morote also released a video in response to the shooting of Sophie Ledwaba 26, at a club in Sunnyside on August 19, warning women not to drink expensive alcohol and then expect to sleep at home.

Mbalula said: "We will continue to hunt criminals and smoke them out of their hiding holes. Their time is up and we can no longer watch as they terrorize our communities."

Morote appeared in Atteridgeville Magistrate's Court this morning and was denied bail as he also had 12 pending cases of murder, carjacking and robbery.

This is despite several of the charges being withdrawn.

"I salute our police officers for arresting a suspected criminal with so many cases pending against him. My message to criminals is that we are coming for you, our people can no longer live in fear," the police minister added.

Morote’s appearance was postponed to September 19.
