Polokwane - President Jacob Zuma arrived in Muyexe village in Limpopo on Tuesday to assess the progress of a rural development programme, his spokesman Mac Maharaj said.
The monitoring visit came after Zuma first identified his intention to improve Muyexe, in Giyani, in his 2009 state of the nation address.
“During his address, he expressed concern over the lack of development in the area; in particular that it had no basic services, like water, electricity, roads and housing.”
The village was declared a pilot project under the comprehensive rural development programme.
Zuma would visit the Muyexe Thusong service centre, the Muyexe early childhood development centre, Macena Gardens, and the Muyexe water purification plant and reservoir.
The visit would conclude with a community meeting at the Muyexe sports ground.
Zuma was accompanied by Minister in the Presidency for Performance Monitoring and Evaluation Collins Chabane, Social Development Minister Bathabile Dlamini, Water and Environmental Affairs Minister Edna Molewa, Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga, Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs Minister Richard Baloyi, Transport Minister Ben Martins, Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries Minister Tina Joemat-Pettersson and Rural Development and Land Reform Minister Gugile Nkwinti. - Sapa
