A high school principal and two janitors appeared in the Khayelitsha District Court on Thursday in connection with burying a dog alive.
The principal Manono Makhapela, aged 44, and the two janitors Polo Elliot Mfengu and Mkhumbuzi Ncedana, both 59, were arrested on Thursday after alleged cruelty to a stray dog in October last year.
Mfengu and Ncedana allegedly buried the dog alive in a pit which they dug on the premises of the Luhlaza Secondary School in Khayelitsha.
The dog, which was near death, was rescued and taken to the Mdzananda Animal Clinic for treatment.
The abuse resulted in Makhapela being found guilty of misconduct at internal disciplinary proceedings.
At the request of the prosecutor, Ephraim Mlambo, the matter was postponed for plea and trial to August 30. - Sapa
